Contact Lenses - A Sight Better Than Glasses

Contact lenses continue to be the option that suits most consumers, when it comes to vision problems that require a corrective lens.

Many people who wore glasses for years, are surprised to find that even disposable soft contac lenses are an affordable alternative. Some people may even choose to keep a couple of pairs in their own separate case, simply for the fun of changing their eye color.

The manufacture of contact lenses has come a long way over the past 25 years, creating not only the new, soft disposable lens, but also a better and longer lasting hard lens. The essential difference between them, is that soft lenses contain 25%-75% water, making them more flexible, but prone to a shorter lifespan. The hard lens, or rigid gas permeable contact lenses, are harder, more durable, and are more cost effective over the long term, but also are more expensive, up front.

Whichever lens you choose for your eye care needs, it's important to use them correctly, and replace them on the schedule recommended by your opthalmologist. Always keep your soft or hard lens in their case, and clean according to the manufacturer's directions. If you should put them back in the case, and are concerned that they have been turned inside out, simply put the lens on your fingertip, and see whether the "cup" it forms, turns out at the lip. If so, you need to turn it back. However, an "inside out" lens will not damage your eyesight if inserted that way.
